Decendants of Regina Marchand: Our Indian Blood

Late last year I started corresponding with Zina Stockinger, whose grandmother Doris was the sister of my grandmother Regina Marchand. We quickly established we had both heard about the rumor that we had Indian blood flowing in our veins.

Mary Ann Emlile Moran, wife of Louis Marchand, Daughter of
  • Emlile Davis (1824 - 1882) Daughter of
  • Rose Trottier (1794 - ) Daughter of
  • Geneviève Cadotte (1764 - ) Daughter of
  • Augustin Cadot Cadotte (1728 - 1772) Son of
  • Jean François  Cadotte (1693 - 1743) Son of
  • Rose Trottier (1794 - ) Daughter of
  • Marie Durand (1666 - 1708) Daughter of
  • Jean Durand and Catherine Annennontak

After some research Zina found the connection, our great great grandmother Mary Ann Moran (1852 - 1931). She was able to trace back to Nicolas Arendanki (or Anenotha) (1620 - 1649) and Jeanne Otri Ho Andet (1620 - 1654) , full-blooded Huron (also known as Wendat, Wyandot) indigenous peoples of Canada.

Their daughter Catherine Annennontak (1649 - 1709) was married to Jean Durand (1640 - 1671). After much research I discovered that the story of Jean Durand and Catherine Annennontak epitomizes the story of Quebec. A story that would make a great movie epic. Below I copied a quick bio.

"Catherine Anenontha (or Annennontak, Annennonta) was born approximately 1649 and from the village of St Madeleine in Conception parish in the land of the Huron - present day Ontario,Canada.

Her father was Nicolas Anenonta and her mother was Jeanne Otri Ho Andet, Christians probably converted by Jean de Brébeuf the Jesuit missionary. Catherine fled Georgian Bay area with her mother after her father was killed in raids by Iroquois in 1649.

This was a difficult period for the Wyandot-Huron-Wendot peoples; they were essentially "wiped out" by the Iroquois nation. Catherine was probably sheltered by Ursuline nuns in Québec and survived to marry -- three times. She died 11 January 1709 in Batiscan, Québec. Her first marriage was to a Frenchman, Jean Durand, on the 16th of September 1662 in Québec. From this marriage she had three children, Marie Catherine, Ignace and Louis Durand." *

I've found a lot of other information about Catherine that I will share at a later date. Just a quick note a movie star also shares Catherine as a relative, hint: her father is a movie star as well.

Hi Mike, I tried to sign mom up on this web as she wants to read what you have. She will get confused with the computor but she has a lot of information about the Marchand family also. I will try to help her when I go back, just waiting for you to accept her on the web.. She spent years doing research also. She still has a very good memory about Iowa and the family. I also have pictures of Grandma as a small child with her mother and father, brothers and sisters,  before her mother went into the institution. Let me know if you would like me to make you some copies and scan them to you. Louise
