The James Family

For Descendants of Robert James of Coshquin, Ireland

Can we introduce ourselves as we join up? I want to thank Mike for doing this.

I am Pam King, born Pamela Jo James, in Manilla, Iowa. Well actually Manilla doesn't have a hospital so I was born in Carroll.

I lived on the old James homestead in Shelby County. Across the road was Crawford county. Astor was about a mile away. My grandfather, Frank, had farmed the land and then my dad, Robert (Bob), and his brother, George, farmed after grandad and Mimi (my grandmother) moved into town.

The James boys of the late 1800's, Robert, Harvey, George and Will lived in Astor and the farm. Their mother, Charlotte Bonesteel James, lived in a house built for her across the road from the main farmhouse. This house and the house on the lower place were eventually moved into Manilla and are still there. The main farmhouse is still there but it has been renovated once or twice that I know of.

Astor Cemetery is just down the road to the west of the farm.

More later ..this site is acting up a bit

Let's see if this works better...before I fall asleep here!! I have a question.

Besides the four brothers, there are three girls named on the censuses for George and Charlotte. They are Annie, Sadie and Jane. Does any one have any information on any of them. We know Sadie died at 17 years old. We know that Annie was named in George's (her father) probate records and she was 20 when George died. She was between George and Will in age. Finally Jane is seen in the 1880 (I think that is the yr) as being 3 months old and the youngest child.
Ok guys, Mike sent a message to tell me I got the women mixed up here. George was married to Sarah Montgomery not Charlotte Bonesteel. Charlotte was married to jacob Detwiler. Charlotte would be my great great grandmother. Sarah would be three greats away....gets confusing sometimes.
Thanks Pam. I had no idea that the family farmhouse was still there.

I added a photo of the farm. I have others I just have to dig them out. Also a picture of the four James brothers and Annie, I believe. Back row is Robert, Annie, Harvey. In front George and Will.
